Coherence Studies
Six Areas We Study
We study how regulation, alignment, and stability emerge across six interconnected areas — from the nervous system to institutions.
The core pattern
How coherence develops — from stress to resilience.
Stress
Fragmentation
Recovery
Coherence
Resilience
Research basis
Evidence: emergingCoherence Studies draws on systems biology, polyvagal theory, heart rate variability research, and organizational theory.
What is known
HRV is a reliable marker of autonomic nervous system regulation. Social connection measurably affects stress recovery.
What is uncertain
The exact causal relationships between organizational coherence and individual wellbeing are still being studied.
Practical takeaway
Each area can be assessed with observable indicators and improved through targeted practice.
A Unified Framework
Rather than treating these areas as separate disciplines, Coherence Studies views them as interconnected layers of a single adaptive system.
- A regulated nervous system influences behavior.
- Behavior shapes relationships.
- Relationships influence organizations.
- Organizations shape institutions.
- Institutions create the environments in which future individuals develop.
Our working hypothesis is that understanding coherence requires examining not only the individual, but the feedback loops that connect biology, psychology, behavior, society, and culture. We assess each area using observable indicators — such as HRV, decision consistency, trust scores, and governance transparency — and revise the model as new evidence emerges.
