The Coherence Threshold: Institutional Failure and the Great Filter — A Structural Theory of Civilizational Survival
A structural theory of civilizational survival proposing the Civilizational Bottleneck Hypothesis — a mismatch between technological capability and civilizational corrective capacity as a candidate Great Filter. Six structural failure mechanisms, the Coherence Threshold, civilizational recoverability, and the Coherence Architecture as a candidate design framework.
Stewarding the Architecture: Constitutional Governance for Public Infrastructure
This article argues that institutions stewarding public infrastructure should be evaluated not only by their capacity to resist capture, but by the recoverability of the infrastructure when capture, institutional failure, or governance breakdown occurs. We distinguish capture-resistance, capture-resilience, and recoverability, propose a constitutional stewardship model grounded in five invariants, and introduce recoverability as a measurable institutional property.
The Structural Extraction, Accountability, and Governance Series: A Unified Theoretical Architecture
A unified theoretical architecture comprising three papers: a general theory of structural extraction (diagnosis), the Structurally Embedded Transparency (SET) Framework (architecture), and the Commitment→Outcome Model (implementation). Six dimensions of extraction, six countermeasures, a compliance test, a SET-0 to SET-5 maturity model, breakpoint analysis, and recoverability.
Structurally Embedded Transparency: Toward a General Framework for Anti-Extractive Institutional Design
This article introduces the Structurally Embedded Transparency (SET) Framework — a constitutional and technical specification for embedding transparency, accountability, and contestability into institutional design. Drawing on the structural extraction model developed in our companion article, we propose six structural countermeasures mapped to the six dimensions of extraction: Resource Transparency (counters Accumulation Pressure), Proactive Disclosure (counters Information Asymmetry), Pattern Detection (counters Failure Persistence), Reality Protocol (counters Epistemic Decoupling), Power Audits (counters Authority Concentration), and Impact Transparency (counters Consequence Displacement). We provide formal definitions for each countermeasure, establish a compliance test for assessing institutional transparency, and propose a maturity model (SET-0 to SET-5) for tracking institutional progress. We introduce the concept of authority–consequence alignment as a core design principle and the concept of recoverability as a systems property. The framework is designed to be technology-neutral and implementable across service-based and product-based organizations. We conclude with implications for research and practice.
Structural Extraction: Toward a General Theory of Institutional Pathology
This article proposes a general theory of structural extraction — a recurring institutional failure mode in which benefits, resources, authority, or agency accrue disproportionately to one actor or group while material costs, risks, consequences, or loss of agency are systematically imposed on others, particularly where transparency, consent, reciprocity, or contestability are structurally constrained. Drawing on case studies from corporate collapse, organizational decay, and governance failure, we propose six candidate structural dimensions of extraction: Accumulation Pressure, Information Asymmetry, Failure Persistence, Epistemic Decoupling, Authority Concentration, and Consequence Displacement. We argue that extraction is not primarily a moral or psychological failing, but a structural one — a predictable outcome of institutional architectures that lack transparency, accountability, and contestability. The article concludes by establishing the criteria for a non-extractive institutional architecture and lays the groundwork for the Structurally Embedded Transparency (SET) Framework as a testable design proposition.
Coherent Agency: A Structural Model of Integrated Psychological Functioning
This article proposes a structural model of coherent agency — an emergent property of integrated psychological functioning rather than a discrete personality trait. Drawing on existing research in personality psychology, trauma studies, and systems theory, we argue that coherence emerges from the interaction of multiple psychological capacities: self-governance, present-moment engagement, reality discrimination, self-regulation, relational integrity, metacognitive witnessing, meaningful orientation, and generative contribution. We introduce the construct of the "predator voice" as a theoretical label for recurrent internalized extraction-oriented cognition and propose that coherence represents the progressive decentering and integration of such patterns. The model is offered as a theoretical framework for empirical examination, with explicit hypotheses, proposed measurement strategies, and falsification conditions.
The Energy Dynamic of Extraction and Scapegoating: A Structural Analysis of Delegated Weight in Relational Systems
This article proposes a structural theory of extraction and scapegoating as a systemic energy transfer — a delegation of psychological and energetic weight from the extractor to the scapegoat. Drawing on systems theory, trauma studies, and the emerging field of structural psychology, we argue that scapegoating is not merely an interpersonal dynamic but a structural function of the extraction system. The scapegoat holds projections, consequences, and energy that rightfully belong to the extractor, who delegates this weight to maintain functional coherence. Love serves as the "hinge" that maintains the container for this transfer. We introduce the concept of "delegated stake" — a temporary, structural transfer of weight analogous to staking in blockchain systems — and propose a structural resolution: the conscious closure of the transfer channel, which returns the delegated weight to its owner and restores energetic balance.
How to Audit CoherenceHub: Security & Coherence Guide
This guide provides a two-part audit framework for coherencehub.app: first, a technical security audit covering authentication, data leakage, input validation, payments, and infrastructure; second, a coherence audit evaluating whether the app fulfills its mission as a sovereign tool for witness practice. It also explains why a Build Document is essential as a living reference.
Your First 10 Minutes on the Coherence Hub
This guide walks a new user through their first 10 minutes on the Hub—what to explore first, what to skip for now, and how to orient without overwhelm.
What is Deposit? What is Extraction?
Explains the foundational coherence framework: deposit vs. extraction. This is the lens through which all Hub apps are designed.
Mindful: Breath Pacer
The Breath Pacer guides you through coherent breathing patterns: Box Breathing (4-4-4-4), Calm (4-7-8), Resonance (5-5), and Energize (4-4). Each pattern serves a different regulation need.
Mindful: Stillness Timer
The Stillness Timer provides a configurable countdown for silent practice—5, 10, 20, or 30 minutes—with optional ambient sound and a gentle bell at the end.
Awareness Training
A 30-day progressive Socratic course divided into three phases: Awakening (days 1–7), Debugging (days 8–21), and Signaling (days 22–30). Each day presents one question. The system generates follow-up questions based on your answer.
